Why am I often silent while others argue?

I often find myself next to people of opposing views.

The trouble seems to be that I agree in different ways with both

of them. Especially in politics. While I lean towards conservatism,

I don’t consider myself a Republican. While I sympathize with some

liberal causes I don’t consider myself a Democrat. The labels fail to

describe what is really going on in my head. I shut my mouth not just to

preserve the peace or to avoid an argument. The real reason is that the need

to have these people in my life far out ways any desire to convince

someone that I’m right and their wrong. The older I get the more I’m

aware of how few people there are in my life, and the more I feel a need to

keep the ones I have; so I seek to not offend. IMG_4432_1
